BioUtah Awards Ultradent Founder a Lifetime Achievement Award

November 9, 2022 Salt Lake City, Utah

CEO Emeritus and Founder of Ultradent Products, Inc., Dr. Dan Fischer, was awarded the 2022 BioUtah Life Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual BioHive Summit.

Dr. Fischer started Ultradent Products in 1979 at his kitchen table with the invention of Ultradent’s first product—Astringedent™ hemostatic. Forty-four years later, the company now boasts 500+ products, including the #1 professional teeth whitening brand in the world—Opalescence™ teeth whitening systems. Utah-based Ultradent employs approximately 2,000+ people, with 1,600 working at its South Jordan, Utah headquarters. The company continues to introduce groundbreaking technology, such as the VALO™ curing light (the world’s most recognized broad spectrum LED curing light) as well as the industry’s first dual-wavelength diode laser, the Gemini™ laser.

Dr. Fischer stays in touch with R&D at Ultradent and works tirelessly to improve the world through humanitarian aid, with a present emphasis on providing funds for shelter and dental care to the people of Ukraine. He and Ultradent also donate thousands of products to worldwide humanitarian missions. Additionally, Dr. Fischer and Ultradent fund the company’s long-standing charity “The Diversity Foundation” which focuses on providing education to young people who leave the Fundamentalist Church of Latter-Day Saints and need a helping hand.

“Albeit in the early days of Ultradent, I was an R&D ‘team of one,’ upon completion of our first product, the rest of my family joined me to facilitate manufacturing. We often worked until late in the night. As the days and years went by, the R&D ‘team of one,’ as well as the rest of Ultradent continue to grow. Today, I’m proud of the hundreds of hardworking, intelligent, caring people that make up various vital teams of Ultradent all over the globe. I’m honored that our efforts in the life sciences community are recognized by BioUtah. I am proud to share this award with the many people who have made Ultradent and the Ultradent family who they are today,” said Dr. Dan Fischer, of this recognition.

Other honorees at the 2022 BioHive Summit include David Bears, Halia Therapeutics; Ken Eliasen, Edwards Lifesciences; Utah State Senator Ann Millner; and Nomi Health—all being recognized for their contributions to leadership, healthcare innovation, entrepreneurship, and Utah’s life sciences community.

“We’re excited to unveil this year’s award winners,” said Kelvyn Cullimore, president and CEO of BioUtah. “Each individual receiving an award represents the finest of achievements in our life sciences industry, blazing new trails in science and fostering a robust ecosystem to advance life-changing treatments and technologies.”

“These awards give us a chance to celebrate the exceptional culture of innovation and collaboration we have here in the BioHive community,” added Brad Brown, Chair of the BioUtah Board of Directors. “We proudly honor the winners.”
