Initial nominees for the prestigious award were selected by a respected group of well-known clinicians and leaders in the dental industry, including numerous, well-known Key Opinion Leader doctors. • Ultradent Receives 2016 Earth Day Award For Mine Reclamation Project

April 27, 2016 South Jordan, Utah

The Utah Board of Oil, Gas, and Mining honored Ultradent Products Inc. with its 2016 Earth Day Award for the company’s innovative reclamation of a mine located in Tooele County, Utah. Every year, the board presents the award to Utah companies, organizations, and individuals for going beyond what is required by regulation to protect the environment while developing Utah’s natural resources.

For more than two decades, Ultradent responsibly used the site to resource and refine banded fluorite and barite found within the mine for use in its many dental products. Last August, Ultradent executives made the decision to undergo reclamation of the mine in order to return it to a post-mining land use, making it a possible and safe habitat for wildlife in the future. The project involved demolition and closing the mine, regrading, and revegetating the land.

Larry Garahana, a geologist for the Bureau of Land Management said, “Projects like this are so important because we don’t want to leave old mining disturbances on the ground for safety reasons, and it’s important to bring the landscape back to a suitable habitat and ground for wildlife and woodlands.” He continues, “Ultradent, under the direction of Peter Allred and Erwin Fischer, did a phenomenal job on this project. They went above and beyond.”

Peter Allred, Ultradent’s director of formulation technology says, “We’re a proud Utah company—all of our marketing materials and product packaging feature our iconic Utah landscapes and landmarks, and with this project, we felt a deep responsibility to clean up the site and return the land to its natural state as good corporate citizens.”

Erwin Fischer, Ultradent’s senior vice-president says, “This is something that our team can be very proud of for the effort that they put into it. They gave it their all and spend a lot of time and in the end, I think they really enjoyed it and knocked it out of the park.”

“Earth Day Awards recognize reclamation projects and innovations in environmental technology that surpass what is required by regulation,” stated Utah Board of Oil, Gas, and Mining Chairman Ruland Gill Jr. “It is an opportunity for companies to demonstrate technical expertise and pride in their industry, and concern not only for the economics of their industry, but also for our environment.”

Other companies that received the 2016 Earth Day Award include Compass Minerals Ogden, Inc., Conoco Phillips, North American Mine Services, Inc., Canyon Fuel Company, LLC, and Questar Pipeline Company for their projects.

  • Ultradent Products, Inc. Proudly Introduces MTA Flow ™ Repair Cement

March 7, 2016 South Jordan, UT

Ultradent Products Inc. proudly introduces MTA Flow™ (Mineral Trioxide Aggregate), a repair cement made especially for pulpotomies, pulp capping, root-end filling, apexification, perforation repair, and root resorption.

MTA Flow is a bioactive powder and liquid/gel system consisting of an extremely fine, radiopaque, inorganic powder of tricalcium and dicalcium silicate which sets with a water-based gel. When set, the repair cement forms a layer of hydroxyapatite, which induces a healing reaction. The powder/gel combination also gives the clinician a variety of mixing options needed for an effective, non-gritty, easy-to-deliver MTA.

MTA Flow’s small particle size (less than 10 microns) allows for smooth and easy dispensation, and its proprietary gel formulation makes the product more washout-resistant than other MTAs mixed with water. MTA Flow’s mixing ratio is adaptable to every procedure, allowing the clinician the ability to achieve any desired consistency, from thin, to thick, to putty. Its quick setting time also makes it possible to rinse or air-dry without washing away the MTA within five minutes of application. MTA Flow is the only MTA that can be delivered in thin consistency through a 29 ga Navitip®tip for apexification and apical plug applications.

  • Ultradent Products, Inc. Proudly Introduces the Jiffy® Universal Ceramic Finishing System

February 29, 2016 South Jordan, Utah

Ultradent Products Inc. proudly introduces the Jiffy® Universal Ceramic Finishing System—the only universal finishing system for high-strength ceramics. Ultradent’s new Jiffy Universal Ceramic Finishing System is a finishing solution in which all adjustors and polishers work interchangeably on porcelain, lithium disilicate, and zirconia. Each convenient kit (extra-oral or intra-oral) includes everything the dentist needs, eliminating the need to purchase unnecessary or multiple components and allowing the clinician to create a truly smooth, beautiful, high-gloss finish of the highest quality on all ceramic restorations. Jiffy Universal allows for universal application, eliminating the need for multiple grinders and polishers, saving the clinician time and money.

Because of the extreme hardness of newer ceramic materials, effectively adjusting and polishing ceramic restorations can be a major challenge. If a restoration is not adjusted and polished correctly, it can result in microfractures and abrasion of the softer natural dentition of adjacent teeth. The Jiffy Universal system features Ultradent’s specially formulated diamond grit, providing optimal smoothness and outstanding polishing results. The multi-grit diamond particles also allow for effective adjustment of ceramics for a truly high-gloss finish, and the system’s maximum diamond retention ensures a long service life. Additionally, the system’s autoclavable aluminum block further extends the life of the system.

Only Jiffy Universal Kits offer a universal solution with an optimal number of components so clinicians can efficiently adjust and polish any ceramic material to achieve a truly smooth surface with the highest quality, most natural-looking finish possible. To learn more about the Jiffy Universal Ceramic Finishing System, please call 800.552.5512, or visit ultradent.com.
