Technical Q&A

How many impressions will one pound of CHROMACLONE yield?
The scoop we use holds 20 grams. Since there are 454 grams of Chromaclone in each pound, a pound should theoretically yield 22 impressions.

What are the set times for CHROMACLONE ALGINATE?
Chromaclone Bubble Gum flavor has a setting time of 53 seconds in the mouth. Chromaclone Walterberry flavor has a setting time of 80 seconds in the mouth.

How much of a cartridge of CHROMACLONE PVS will be used when doing a crown, or bridge?
This depends on the procedure and the type of tray being used. Most impressions use about 1/3 of a cartridge for the heavy/medium body. A wash material lasts much longer because you are only placing the material on the preparation.

What is the contact angle of CHROMACLONE PVS?
The contact angle is 20 degrees.

What makes CHROMACLONE PVS different from other PVS materials?
Chromaclone PVS contains a special three-dimensional resin. It has an advanced PVS chemistry with special resins (non-linear resins that combine with hydrophilic surfactants). This is called PVQ technology. Also, the bubblegum flavor is more pleasing to the patient.

Does CHROMACLONE PVS need to be immersed in a disinfectant?
It is recommended that an impression be placed in a disinfectant, especially when blood is present. Sterilox is great for this application.

What CHROMACLONE PVS recommended contact time with disinfectant?
The contact time varies with every disinfectant. Follow the guidelines for the disinfectant of choice.

When taking an impression with CHROMACLONE PVS, are the teeth and tissue supposed to be completely dry, moist, etc.?
The drier the preparation, the better Chromaclone PVS will work.

Is there anything different about the CHROMACLONE PVS gun compared to other brands?
No, it is universal.

What is the benefit of CHROMACLONE PVS superhydrophillic properties?
PVS materials can be hydrophobic (doesnt work well in the presence of water) or hydrophilic (works better in the presence of water). Since Chromaclone PVS is superhydrophillic , its branched chemistry will work in the presence of moisture.

Do our intra-oral tips for CHROMACLONE PVS go on a delivery syringe or on the mixing tips?
They attach to the mixing tips. Impression tips and FX tips attach to a syringe.

What is CHROMACLONE PVS monophase compared to a light and medium?
Monophase is the same as medium body. Monophase and light body/wash have different thixotropic properties. Monophase is thicker and more viscous. Light body flows better and is designed to take detailed impressions of the margins.

What does out-gassing mean, and why does CHROMACLONE PVS not out-gas while other materials do?
Old materials ( polyethers ) produce a nitrogen gas after the impression is taken. This would distort the model if was poured up to early. Out gassing does not happen with our material.

Is the pour time of CHROMACLONE PVS “at your convenience?”
Yes, 30 minutes to 30 days.

Why do the instructions say that CHROMACLONE PVS PUTTY can be mixed by hand?  Shouldn't a clinician's hands always be gloved for sterilization requirements?
Latex Gloves and hand lotions can inhibit or contaminate the setting of all Chromaclone PVS Impression Material; this is the same for all putty.

Since CHROMACLONE PVS is hydrophilic, will it swell when immersed in a disinfectant?
No, though it is not recommended to leave it immersed beyond the contact time.

Can dentists use another tray adhesive with CHROMACLONE PVS?
Yes, as long as it is a PVS adhesive.

Why do you use a tray adhesive with CHROMACLONE PVS?
This helps prevent the impression from tearing off the impression tray (which causes distortion) while removing the tray from the mouth.

What is the purpose of PREPQUICK?
PrepQuick is a chemistry designed to increase ease, quality and predictability with impression making when using primarily hydrophobic impression materials such as silicone. Smear layer is selectively removed and wetting enhancement occurs relative to silicone, etc. on hydrophilic dentin.
